Autumn Equinox 2019
The equinox is a special time of year when night and day are almost equal lengths. However, it may have meant more to the people who built the Loughcrew Cairns over 5,000 years ago. It could have been a time to honor the harvest, mark a stage in the cycle of the year or maybe something else.
Today people celebrate the equinox sunrise alignment at Cairn T by gathering around the entrance of the Cairn which is also the highest point in Meath. The suns rays illuminate the passage, chamber and ancient carvings within this ancient monument. To mark this occasion we have put together the following events to celebrate this special time of year at Loughcrew. Hopefully, we will see you here for sunrise!
