We are located in Oldcastle Co Meath on the borders of Cavan and Westmeath. It is a thatched courtyard development containing an original 1700’s cottage, café/restaurant/function room/workshops/children’s playground/hostel/camping site/audio visual of the heritage.
It is at the entrance to the Loughcrew Megalithic Cairns where 18 counties of Ireland are clearly visible. The Loughcrew Megalithic Tombs are Ireland’s best kept secret and are lost in the Boyne Valley region. Every tourist who visits here from around the world deem it to be the most beautiful place they have ever visited in the world steeped in history dating back to 3,000 BC. Loughcrew is the oldest site in Europe and located just 1 hour’s drive from the centre of Dublin. Certainly a must visit on the new Ireland’s Ancient East Route.
The Loughcrew Megalithic Centre is within 15 minutes drive of Cavan’s County Museum which hosts the World War 1 Trenches. 15 minutes drive of The Monastic Village of Fore in Westmeath where St Fechin’s Monastery is one of the 7 Wonders of Fore.
Europe’s largest beech forest with marked different length walks is on the route along with the Heritage Centre in Ballinacree which hosts the famous Ballinacree Banner and other artifacts.
With these additional attractions there is easily a 1/2/3 day tour that could be offered and I feel tourists would be interested with food stops, i.e. breakfast in Loughcrew Megalithic Centre, lunch/dinner on Lough Ramor or Lough Sheelin or in the Market Town of Oldcastle. We at Loughcrew Megalithic Centre can put a tour package together to suit any requests that you may have and we can tailor make a tour to suit your company. We can package a tour taking in fishing, hiking, golfing, accommodation, farm tour or Gaelic match.
